  • Assalamu alaikum peace be unto you my fellow sister. Are you here today to testify?
  • Peace be to you too. Yes I am here to testify.

  • First of all can you introduce yourself and then about your family.

  • Sure, my name is Gulzar Tohti. I am from 9 Dadue 1 Due of Iyenchi county in Aksu city. In October it will be two years since I’ve been here. Four months after I arrived I learned my father was taken away by the Chinese Security Police. I heard that they tortured him before they released him then he was taken back to the “ Re-education Centre”, he was tortured again, soon after he died in his house.

  • I have two daughters eldest is eight years of age and the youngest is two and half years old. They live with my sister, her husband and their six children. Currently we are completely cut off so I don’t know where they are, how they doing and their well being.

  • Do you know if your family and kids are in “education camps” or “orphanage camps” or whether they have been separated from your sister?

  • No I don’t know. I don’t know anything about them at the moment, since two months after I arrived here our connection stopped to this day.

  • How did your dad died?

  • What I heard from my community about my dad was that when they released him last, the police officials told my dad to find me within one week time otherwise he will go to jail indefinitely. Soon after that incident I heard the news of my dad and about his death.

  • Do you have anyone in your family?

  • I have one older brother and one younger brother. They have mysteriously disappeared.

  • What are your children’s names?

  • My eldest daughter is Afifa eight years now and my youngest daughter will be five in November. When I left my home country they were six and two and half years old.

  • Have you heard of any news about your relatives?

  • I haven’t heard anything about any of my relatives.
